Career Thoughts

It also occurs to me that if you're reading this blog it's important to understand the values that my husband and I base our lives on. Not in some cosmic sense, but our careers have a direct impact on our earnings power. We both have advanced degrees, but have chosen careers that are a) personally satisfying, and b) somewhat good for humanity. The combination of these things means that our salaries are low, and we expect that this will be true for at least the next 10 years. We won't be retiring in our 40s (or 50s!), but because we find our careers satisfying, I think that we will be happy working for most of our lives. We also plan to have children someday (not within the next couple of years), and that almost automatically means that we'll be lucky to retire in our mid 60s. However, we're starting to save for retirement relatively early, so hopefully it will happen at some point.
